First trip as a member of the Fireflies

The first trip with Fireflies travel club to the Canary Islands!

When I first heard about the Firefiles travel club (it was March 2018), I wasn’t planning a trip, just a one-week visit to Hungary in the summer. The plan was to spend a few days with the family in a quiet lakeside chalet.
In May, however, the possibility of a year-end trip came up, so my wife and I started to get to know Fireflies more seriously. Maria liked the cheaper travel and the discounts, and I was immediately interested in the business.
My first thought was to join the club in May and by October (when we planned the trip) I could earn some money, making the „holiday” even cheaper. OK. Let’s do it! I’ve joined the club. However, on reflection, there was one big problem. Even though I was convinced that it wasn’t a scam, that it was a company that had been running for nine years, that offered cheaper travel, that made money and changed the lives of many people, how could I recommend something that I hadn’t tried in person? Something I haven’t experienced first hand? The answer: you have to try it. As soon as possible, because we cannot wait until October. So it was that we went to the Canary Islands in July, to Lanzarote to be precise, with Fireflies of course.
We spent five wonderful days in Arrecife, the island’s capital, at the Hotel Lancelot, a ten-minute drive from the airport, opposite one of the island’s most beautiful sandy beaches. Lanzarote has plenty to offer visitors, but for us, these five days were all about relaxation. We spent most of the day on the beach, reading, listening to music or swimming in the ocean. At twenty-six to twenty-eight degrees with water temperatures of 20-22 degrees, this turned out to be a pretty good plan, and we executed it quite well. We only suspended this activity for lunch and the capuchino afterwards. We drank the capuchinos each day at the bar next to the pools on the hotel’s rooftop terrace. We couldn’t miss a visit to Pepe. A true professional host who always put a smile on our faces. Back to the beach and then a bit of „shopping” in the late afternoon. In the evenings, we stopped at one of the restaurants or pizzerias along the coast, then after dinner, a walk along the ocean.

Five days of tranquillity, real lazing around. Except for the morning runs, where I wasn’t alone. To my surprise, most of my fellow athletes were locals. I really enjoyed jogging along the coastal promenade and watching the city wake up. By the time the tourists woke up, the streets had been cleaned up, the beach sand replenished and the shop shelves restocked……… for another relaxed, laid-back day that only locals can really do.
We’ve tried to embrace this lifestyle, but of course you can’t make the transition perfectly in five days. So we decided to come back………………………..to practice.
